About Pitru Shanti Maha Puja
Significance of Pitru Shanti Maha Puja
Pitru Shanti Maha Puja is a sacred spiritual ritual performed to honour ancestors (Pitrus) and seek their blessings for the family's peace and prosperity. According to Vedic tradition, unsettled ancestral souls are believed to reflect as instability, delays or obstacles in the lives of their descendants. This puja is performed to offer respect, gratitude and peace to the departed souls of the family lineage. The ceremony includes Sankalp, invocation of ancestral spirits, Pitru Tarpan (water offerings), and Vedic mantra chanting including the Pitru Mantra: "Om Devatabhyah Pitribhyashch Mahayogibhya Ev Cha, Namah Swadhayai Swahayai Nityamev Namo Namah" - meaning salutations to the deities, ancestors and enlightened yogis. Sacred offerings such as til, rice, barley and holy water symbolically nourish the ancestral souls. Traditionally recommended during Pitru Paksha, death anniversaries, or for families facing recurring obstacles.
